Big news at CC Lowell in Worcester, MA. After 23 years at the helm, Bill Cavanagh has sold America’s oldest art supply store to longtime employee and co-collaborator, Kristen Sciascia, who has been part of the CC Lowell family for almost 18 years. Through much trial and error, Bill and Kristen found the right combination of product, promotion and environment that allowed CC Lowell to weather the constant change that has been part of the landscape for Bill’s 40-year art materials career. Bill will now be free to explore new opportunities and to volunteer near his home on Cape Cod, MA.
At JoAnn’s, head of Art Supply Merchandising Josh Belt reports that one of his team, Kevin Richards, has left the company.
Some art and craft industry holiday cheer: Jo-Ann’s employee Deborah Browning has her job back after her story broke in social media channels. The 22-year company employee had been terminated from her job at JoAnn’s Fabric and Craft in Redlands, CA while receiving treatment for cancer. Community members, co-workers and customers who supported Deborah celebrated the good news with joyful hugs in early December.

The Maped Group has decided to merge its Maped U.S.A. and Helix U.S.A. Ltd subsidiaries in first quarter of 2013. The new company name will be Maped Helix USA. The merged business will operate from existing facilities of Helix USA Ltd in Joliet IL. Hubert DeMarolles will lead the new company.
